Red Emerson Tombstone Catalin radio The Emerson Catalin tombstone radio for sale here exhibits and contains many faults. These faults were previously contained in the woefully damaged Catalin case but were not exhibited in the past due to some skillful repairs. Due to these repairs this Catalin case, which exhibited no faults visually but in reality contained many, could be represented as a [radio without faults] and sold as such for the price of $3900.00 by Steven Turner of Catalinradio.com. This hand-polished beauty containing many problems in the past, yet exhibiting none of these problems at the time original sale, is now exhibiting the problems that were contained in the Catalin but hidden from sight. The painted marbling covering the flaws that were contained in the Catalin yet not exhibited looked wonderful at the time of sale, but now several months later just do not look too good. I think Picasso chose to paint on canvas rather than Catalin because of problems like this. I think Picasso was right but who can afford a Picasso? On the flip side, if I wanted to buy a painting I would not have bought a Catalin radio. This lovely radio, one of the highlights of my disintegrating collection, was sitting on my shelf showing no problems while certainly containing them. It began to show problems consistent with a radio that contained problems even though it did not exhibit them. The lower front of the radio began to exhibit stress marks not consistent with a radio containing no cracks or repairs. Father Time is certainly the enemy of bad Catalin repairs... Upon checking the inside of the radio, something I hadn't done closely before... (as the radio showed no problems and although not purchased on eBay it had been purchased from a eBay seller with thousands of positive feedbacks, years of sales history and was told in his email to me 'Don't worry, YOUR SATISFACTION IS GUARANTEED with no mention of this 5-day stuff - you gotta trust a guy like that) ...I noticed a large shadow on the top of the radio. It looked like E.T. had landed his spaceship inside the Catalin top of the radio! I honestly did not know what it was and put the picture up on eBay a couple of weeks ago as I thought collectors might want this picture for their files. I was also hoping that someone could explain this phenomena to me - it is a MASSIVE, HUGE repair, a HUMONGOUS repair, the Repair to End All Repairs! The Daddy and Granddaddy of all repairs...if you can't get the message, it is ONE REALLY BIG REPAIR! I notified Mr. Turner of his error in his representation of the condition of this radio and reminded him of his guarantee. His silence is deafening, very deafening. I know a lot of you collectors like to buy special radios and this one is as special as they get. Hopefully I will get the time to relist some of the other special radios that are still unsold so I can offer combined shipping on multiple purchases.
