Where to begin with these fabulous "sleepers" - In stock form, the DDS-1s have great potential, and with much effort, this pair lives up to that potential! The "as new" dual 15" woofers are lightning FAST and play to the depths of the planet - an amazing feat for a vented alignment woofer - and it does both very well! The sensitivity of these UTAH Alnico woofers is on the heels of an ALTEC 416 - they play deeper too - they just arent as swanky looking - as they have stamped frames and a 2" voice coil - but listen with your ears (not your eyes) and you'll be rewarded!!!!. Next, the ALTEC 811s and Alnico 806 Driver need no introduction. This driver/horn combination can sing sweetly - maybe even close to a TAD 2001 and an ONKEN wood Horn - (but not in stock form - the seeburg 800 hz 2nd order crossover made these harsh loud and screechy and altec horns have a resonant ring around 2300hz). This pr. has undergone extensive crossover modifications - and in a manner leaving the stock crossovers intact - just a raised crossover point on the 1", along with a broadband notch filter - giving these a transformed upper treble balance - WOW what a difference! THESE SPEAKERS ARE NOW MAGICAL! and in a league reserved for speakers costing in the $10,000 stratospheric and up price range!
