Description
Superb pair of Consonance M500 single ended triode monoblocks. The Consonance M500 monoblocks are very highly regarded in their stock configuration. Originally sold for $2995.00 a pair, plus shipping. Those of you who are into the 300b tubes, and have followed the various reviews of the different manufactures are aware that one of the more complete tube reviews used a pair of these amps (kit version, known as the Billie) which had been extensively modified by Thornston Loach, the reviewer. These amps have extermely high quality transformers, which even in their stock form, results in excellent sound quality. Becasue of their inherant quality, there have been many articles written on the web as to the best approach to maximize sound quality. In stock form they utilized a 6SL7 input tube, a 5U4GB rectifier tube, and of course, the 300b output tube. This particular pair have been extensively modified by an amp builder with over 30 years of experience. When they were delivered to him for his magic, he set out to research all of the various modifications which were discussed on the internet, which took a period of several months. He would try various capacitors, circuit changes, and listen to each, as each change was made. After countless mods, the end result is what you see here. The input tube has been changed to a 6SN7, as it sounded slightly better, with only a slight loss of gain. Rectifier tube was unchanged, and of course, the single output tube for each amp is a 300b. Caps were upgraded to copper in oil, circuitry was modified, and the result is superb, expecially so for the initial bid price, which is with no reserve. If you are the high bidder, the amps are yours. As an additional point of information, this particular pair was a custom pair from the factory, as can be seen from the front pane, and the engraving thereon, which states: "Custom made for our friend Cao Jiang" At the time this pair was purchase by me, I was told the wiring in the output transformers was silver plated copper, instead of the standard output transformers usually provided by the manufacturer. Obviously, I have no way of verifying that, but obviously, the pair was not the ordinary pair of Consonance M500s. How do they sound? In a word, superb. I have compared them to a pair of Consonance Cyber 211 monoblocks, and these were more detailed, richer sounding, and had better bass. The Cyber 211 have received rave reviews in 6 Moons, and these were simply better. The Cyber 211 amps sell for 6K a pair, to put things in perspective. The second comparison was to a pair of Canary 309 amps, which were the model previous to the Canary 339s, actually the same amps in all respects, except for different coupling caps, and output transformers, 45 watts vs 50 watts per channel. Each amp uses 4 300bs, two recitifer tubes, and two 6SN7 input tubes. They sold for 12K and 14K a pair respectively. The same input, output, and recitifier tubes were used in both amps, The difference between the Canary 309s, and these modded M500s was where you would expect it, considering the Canary's are 45 watts, and the Consonances are 8 watts each, in the low bass. In all other respects, these amps sounded the same, in air, detail, midrange richness, and, unless you were comparing them directly with the Canaries, the bass was all you would expect from a single ended triode 300b amp.Suitable speakers would be any easy load, 93 db effeciency and up speaker. Goodmans, Tannoy, EV, Jensen, Coral, Altec, JBL, and obviously, the new reasonably priced high effeciency speakers coming out on the market. You can spend a lot more money, and still get a lot less sound quality than these amps offer. Why am I selling? Simply because my amp builder and I are trying a different tube, in a different amp, a 6a3 single ended amp, and I need to fund the project as we go along. These amps have 4 and 8 ohm outputs, a single high quality RCA input, and detachable power cords. They are set up for 110 volts, not the 220 shown on the back. These are guaranteed not DOA, and to be as represented. Buyer has a one week right of return if not satisfied with sound quality. Purchse price, less shipping and insurance will be refunded upon receipt of returned amps in condition they were sent to buyer. Can't get a better offer than that!Included are a pair of Chrome Dome Green Sylvania 6SN7 tubes, a pair of RCA recitifer tubes. I am not including any 300b tubes, as most people have their own preferences. I find the TJ Premium Meshplates are superb in this amp, as are the WE 300bs. There are many excellent choices available on Ebay. Google 300b tube reviews, and you will be rewarded with a lot of interesting reading. Any questions, please ask. Figure shipping of 35 lbs x 2 packages from 06473, please add $10.00 for packing materials to your final winning bid amount. Please add 3% for Paypal. Personal checks welcome, but allow time for clearing prior to shipment. Insurance is required!!!!!!!!!!!!<!--[endif]-->
