This is a Thorens TD-124 Turntable in its original carton, I acquired from an estate. It has Serial Number: 30XXX. It has been in storage since 1972 when the original owner passed away. The carton is in pretty beat shape but it did its job protecting the unit. The only flaws I could find are in the photo below. I found no rust on the metal. I only wiped the unit with a mild cleaner to remove the surface dirt from storage and I used Pledge on the wooden base (which looks like a mahogany finish, not real mahogany). I did not do anything to the tonearm or the Plinth (the Plinth I believe is original from Thorens). The tonearm is from Grado and it is all wood (looks like walnut) with metal counterweights. As stated below, a guide (in pdf) for the tonearm is included in this auction. The power cord and the cables are still flexible and serviceable. I have checked the unit and it runs at all speeds (16⅔, 33⅓, 45 and 78). The strobe and the adjustment control for the strobe works for all rates of rotation. You may have to change the input voltage setting for your region depending on your local electric source. That procedure is covered on the CD I am including. The rubber mat on the aluminum turntable is in like new condition (clean and soft) and the pop-up spindle for the 45 RPM records works properly. I did find a spare drive belt in a plastic container under the turntable, taped to the base (see photos). I did not open the container (I didn’t want to disturb the old tape) so I cannot tell the condition of the spare belt. There is a Shure M33-5 Cartridge which is in well used condition. I’m sure anyone bidding for this unit would want to install their preferred cartridge. I did not service the unit but am including information I have accumulated to allow a buyer to do it themselves. The information covers lubrication, replacement of belts, vibration dampers and methods to improve the sound from the turntable. There are eight files (in pdf & MS Word) totaling over nine Mb on a CD of service and templates for the Thorens and a Grado install and setup guide. There is no dust cover with this turntable.
