We also intended to offer them as kits for anyone who takes pleasure in building things, and learning how things work. The price here reflects the costly materials involved in building a high end audio amplifier for CD, DVD, TV, and guitar ( with a guitar preamp-not included ).  It also requires several weeks to assemble one, and test it. Made in the U.S. by old guys who grew up with these amps as standard ways to play music in one's home in the 50's.  It will remind you of the sound you heard when you attended live concerts way back when when you were an hirsute  whippersnapper; when Edgar Winter blew into town. This is not a featherweight, plastic thingamajig, with transistors that costs pennies. Tube amps are honking beasts weighing in at nearly 30 pounds-$450 worth of heavy iron transformers alone.  The music coming out of them feel weighty too. They are actually miniature particle accelerators.
